CLASS OF ‘62 CHALLENGE! WHY SHOULD THE D.C.C.H.S. CLASS OF ‘62 RESPOND?
Our freshman year was in the old school, our sophomore and junior years we watched the demolition of the old school and the construction of our new school, this gave us the honor of being the first class to have our Class Night and Baccalaureate in the "NEW AUDITORIUM" in May of 1962 - both of these events were "lights out"!
During one of the five Class Night performances when the lights went out, the performance went on uninterrupted as it came during a memorized piano solo. It may have been "a sign" as our patriotic finale included the lighting of candles one by one during the performance of "It is better to light just One Little Candle, than to stumble in the dark." So following a Kansas thunderstorm, since we already had candles from our Class Night finale, our Baccalaureate was held by candle light. Graduation was in the old and still standing high school gymnasium.
Following the tornado of 2008, if we can specify where our contributions should be spent, it would be for some item for the new auditorium.
It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature! BUT another strong force, TRADITION will keep Chapman High School a part of the community! WE ARE CHAPMAN!
Respectfully submitted,

This challenge is a GREAT idea! Linda McCosh-Sato
Here is my check for the tornado fund. I directed 15 plays in the "NEW" auditorium, and have many fond memories of D.C.C.H.S. Dale Livengood, Speech/Drama Instructor
Glenna Hoover-Minter took her donation to the City Clerk at Chapman.
Today was the first day of school!!!! What a summer! 9 weeks! Some rooms are not yet ready to be occupied, but that is just the first of many obstacles! Had an all-school assembly - bussed in all the outlying schools and all students received a green t-shirt with the Irish emblem and a tornado!
