Chapman, KS tornado 6/12/2008 cont.....

Though the town in general suffered servere damage, the Chapman schools were a major recipient of June's twister's winds.

School will begin on schedule, but temporary quarters.

The actual damaging tornado did not hit until about 10:00pm, but the turbulence leading up to it is rather awe inspiring.

Chapman, KS tornado 6/12/2008


Chapman, KS, a small community of approximately 1500 people located in Dickinson County in central Kansas, was hit by a tornado on June 12, 2008.

It is home to the oldest county/community high school (DCCHS) in the world.


I had the pleasure of attending DCCHS for my junior and senior years (1960-62)

There was one fatality and 20+ injured from the tornado that damages about 80% of the town.
